His Dark Materials Trilogy (by Philip Pullman) is one of my favourite stories of all time. Northern Lights (known as "The Golden Compass" in the USA) is the first of the books to be made into a film under the title "The Golden Compass" (with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig). I am very excited about this film. If you are not familiar with the story you can visit the movie website and learn more about the "people and daemons". You can also take a test on the website to see which daemon you would have. According to the test my daemon turned out to be a jackal, Theonilla.
